The evolution of reviews

From pre-internet days to web1, we have long been reading professional reviews. And they are written by journalists, editors, experts, etc. Reviews were published on paper media like NYT, Michelin Star, and Lonely Planet, which began to digitize with the technology in web1. Reviews were also published on native portal websites emerging in web1, like Yahoo. People can only read them unilaterally at that time.

Web2 sees the rise of UGC (user-generated content) pushed by technological progress. People not only can read reviews from others but also can write their reviews online. User reviews, as new content, flourished in every sector, from the online store to the bricks-and-mortar, from movies & books to apps & games, built trust and contributed significantly to the economic prosperity during web2.

With another technology progress brought by web3, what will reviews in the future be like?

We believe that unlike different platforms hosting their own closed & manupulated user review data in web2, in web3, there will be an open, transparent, composable infrastructure that could integrate verifiable reviews on everything (reviews as additional metadata) with well-designed economic incentives.
